Introduction to active measurement for younger primary students

Five activities

These five activities, which are web based, are themselves based on the cuisenaire rods / integer bars that are found in most junior classrooms. These lessons are designed to engage young children in a series of activities where they measure and describe the attributes of integer bars / Cuisenaire rods.

Each of the lessons has been designed to include four types of activities and the formula could be used in other strands of mathematics:

  1. Interactive, manipulative-based projects
  2. Technology
  3. Paper/pencil practice
  4. Literature connections
