The visual elements

Line is the basic element in children’s early drawings. In art work, line can create shape, pattern, movement and unity in a composition. Line can be thick, thin, textured, delicate, bold, curved, straight, continuous or broken. Children soon discover that lines can make shapes and they use them to invent their symbols.Lines are marks that create on paper shape, pattern, texture and volume.  They indicate movement, give direction, form decoration, divide areas and communicate ideas and feelings.

Drawing media for line: Biro, paint and brushes (thick/thin), chalk, pencils, wax crayon, charcoal.
